Harder, Thursday-level puzzle.
Rebus puzzle, sort of.
Two entries meet in a square. One across entry would be BLACK, the down entry would be WHITE.
If you mix the colors BLACK and WHITE, you get GRAY.
GRAY AREA is the revelear.
For example, Clint (BLACK) meets Barry (WHITE). The Black and White rebus meet to form Gray.

Puzzle Idea # 1 -- SNOW REMOVAL
"SNOW REMOVAL"
This is the final entry clued as something like "Winter storm response ... or a hint to -x, -y and -z."
The letters S, N, O and W are removed, one at a time, from commons phrases, creating new wacky phrases.
Also, there won't be dupe letters. So, for example, once "S" is removed from "SHOPPING MALL," there won't be another S in the phrase. Which is why "(S)HOOTING STAR" wouldn't work.
For example:
(S) HOPPING MALL -- Destination for teenage potato sack racers? (11)
(N) xxx
(O) xxx
(W) xxx
SNOW REMOVAL (11)
Obviously, these theme entries aren't set in stone.
